Clean Boats, Clean Waters

Warner Park boat inspection

Help Stop the Spread of Invasive Species!

For the sixth year, Dane County is actively participating in the statewide Clean Boats, Clean Waters program to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species. Look for our inspector James at boat landings, where he is talking with boaters about the aquatic invasives prevention steps: 1) inspect boats, 2) remove plants, 3) drain all water from boat and equipment, and 4) never move plants or live fish away from a waterbody. Ask James where to find Dane County's Aquatic Invasives Removal Stations, with tools to help you reach plants under your boats and trailers. Visit this Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources page for more about state invasive species requirements. Check out these statewide Clean Boats, Clean Waters training videos.

Meet the 2016 Dane County Aquatic Invasive Species Staff

My name is James Johnson and this is my first year working with the Clean Boats, Clean Waters Program. I am a Marine Science Major at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina, and I am home for the summer trying to make a difference as an AIS Inspector. Growing up in Wisconsin, you learn very quickly how important our lakes and streams are to those who live here and use them all the time. I am greatly looking forward to working with the public and keeping our bodies of water clean by providing information and preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species that exist in these water bodies and affect boaters, anglers and more. Myself along with other hardworking and committed individuals look to help improve your knowledge of these invaders so you know who they are and how to deal with them. With everyone’s help we can keep our lakes and streams clean, healthy and most importantly something we can continue to enjoy years and years to come.
